I recently received a “too good to miss” offer to buy a licence for an online platform.
With Sheffield’s population over 500,000 it looks like this bargain-of-a-lifetime licence fee will be just £50,000 if I buy it quickly (it will go back up to £250,000 if I delay).

Sheffield’s Meadowhall shopping centre first opened its doors to the public on 4th September 1990.

As one of Europes biggest and best out-of-town shopping destinations it really is something Sheffield can be proud of.

Channel M – not dead yet!

GMG has now appointed John Furlong as controller of Channel-M.

He is quoted as saying “Channel M is well placed to benefit from developments in policy around local TV”. TV Sheffield also hope to benefit – especially on the back of Jeremy Hunt singling out Sheffield (see previous post).

CULTURE Secretary Jeremy Hunt says it’s “crazy” that Sheffield doesn’t have its own television station.

He added that the UK media was “chronically over-centralised”.

Flintshire TV

Flintshire County Council is about to launch its own TV channel.
The channel will be available on Sky, Virgin and Freeview as well as being accessible on mobile phones and Wii consoles.
£15,000 has been provided by the Welsh Assembly Government.

SIF – in liquidation

Sheffield Independent Film, SIF, has gone into liquidation after 34 years supporting and providing facilities for film and media projects in Sheffield.

SIF was a well known film studio and over the years played host to the BBC and other national broadcasters as well as supporting local production companies.
